What paintless dent removal is
Paintless dent removal (PDR) uses specialist tools to work a dent back out from the inside of the panel, slowly reshaping the metal until it’s flat again. Because there’s no sanding, filler or paint, the car keeps its factory finish — which is good for resale value and avoids colour-matching issues.
When PDR works — and when it doesn’t
- Works well: car park door dings, small round dents, hail damage, soft creases
- Usually works: larger shallow dents with access behind the panel
- Not suitable: cracked or chipped paint, sharp creases on panel edges, stretched metal, some bonded panels
If PDR isn’t right for your damage, we’ll say so and quote a conventional panel repair instead.
Hail damage
Melbourne hail storms can leave dozens of dents across a roof, bonnet and boot. PDR is often the preferred repair method for hail because it keeps the original paint. Hail is normally claimed on your own comprehensive policy — check your policy, then let us know who you’re insured with.
