Claiming on your own policy

Insurance Smash Repairs — and Your Right to Choose

If you were at fault, or there’s no other driver to claim against, you’ll usually claim on your own comprehensive policy. Most policies let you choose who repairs your car. Choosing us means you don’t have to take it anywhere — we can collect it (or you can drop it off) and we handle the repair with your insurer.

  • Most policies allow choice of repairer
  • We work with your insurer’s assessor
  • Pickup or drop-off
  • Updates by text

Can you choose your own repairer?

Under most comprehensive policies you can, but conditions vary: some insurers ask for quotes, some have an assessment process, and some “choice of repairer” options are only available on certain policy levels. Your policy wording or Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) will spell it out. If you’re not sure, call your insurer or ask us to help you check.

How an insurance repair works with us

  1. Lodge your claim with your insurer and tell them you’d like to use Crash Repairs Melbourne Co.
  2. Send us your claim number, photos and details.
  3. We collect your car (or you drop it off) and arrange the assessment and quote with your insurer.
  4. Once approved, a partner workshop carries out the repair.
  5. We return your car. You pay any excess required by your policy.

Insured, but someone else was at fault?

Then you may not need to claim on your own policy at all. See how not-at-fault claims work.

How it works

Four steps. Zero running around.

  1. Send us photos or give us a call

Whatever’s easier — upload a few photos online or just call us. Two minutes.

  2. We check your options

Not at fault, insurance or private — we explain it plainly before you sign anything.

  3. Pickup or drop-off

We collect from your home or workplace, or you drop it off — whatever suits. And a replacement car to keep you moving.

  4. Repaired & returned

A partner workshop fixes it, you get text updates, and we bring it back.

FAQ

Insurance Repairs: your questions

Are you an insurer-approved repairer?
We’re independent, which means we work for you rather than for an insurer. Your insurer will assess and approve the repair quote as part of the claim process.
Who pays the excess?
When you claim on your own policy, your excess is set by your policy and paid as part of the claim. If someone else was at fault, a claim against their insurer means no excess.

Crashed? Let’s get you sorted.

Send a few photos and the details. We’ll tell you your options, collect the car (or you drop it off) and take it from there.
