Claiming on your own policy
Many comprehensive policies include “choice of repairer”, but the details differ: some include it as standard, some only on higher policy levels, and some require quotes or an assessment first. Your Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) will tell you exactly what applies.
Claiming against the at-fault driver’s insurer
As the not-at-fault party you’re entitled to have your car properly repaired. You don’t have to accept the at-fault insurer’s preferred repairer.
Why it matters
- Convenience — a repairer who collects and returns your car, or lets you drop it off
- Communication — someone working for you, not for the insurer
- Quality — a repairer you trust with your car
